Can’t Sit Still

…’cause there’s always something new to see.

30 in 30 Project

First, the what: In the month of September, I pledge to do 30 new things in 30 days.

Second, the why: In the last two weeks, I’ve done a lot of new things.

I’ve been to a couple of poetry open mics, to a night of live music, checked out a new coffee shop two blocks from where I live, taken a free swing dancing lesson, gone to a Madonna vs. Prince vs. Michael Jackson dance party, and gone to the IMAX at the Maryland Science Center. All are things I’ve never done before, and most are things that I normally would not have done.

Normally I probably would have done what I always do - gone to the movies, gone out to eat, done the same old thing with the same people. Or, if all of my friends were already busy I would have stayed home. Depending on the night I might have read, or slept, or watched a DVD. Or I would have sulked, and maybe cried a little, and thought about how I had nothing to do and no one to do it with.

Instead, I was invited to do something different, and I took the person up on it. That led to another and another, and suddenly I was wrapped up in a snowball of new experiences. And all this newness got me thinking: what if I just kept going? And so, the 30 in 30 Project was born.

And third, the only rule: no half stepping.

  1. mixmaster_mo Said,

    This…

Madonna vs. Prince vs. Michael Jackson dance party

…sounds like the best thing EVER!

  2. Laya Said,

It was pretty awesome. I’ve wanted to catch one for a while, so I’m glad I saw that this one was happening in time to actually go.

  3. Ash Said,

    Holy Moly.
    That actually sounds freakin awesome.
Usually my rule of “new” things is done in restaurant. So if I go to a Thai restaurant for the first time, I would order any of the funky named drinks instead of a coke, but your taking it to a whole other level, Rock On =)

The open mic that I go to (Riesterstown) has young poetry readers (high schoolers) but most of the performances are musical, you should check it out one night, its very nice.
Every Thursday 7-10 at The Java Mammas in Riesterstown.

This is Ash by the way =)
    Later.

  4. Laya Said,

Thank you! :) I should be more adventurous about my eating - some new cuisine will have to be my “new thing” at some point. I’ll also have to check out that open mic - maybe I can get Donald to drive out there - he’s been my partner in crime for a lot of this stuff… :)

  5. Ash Said,

Oh that would be wicked cool. I don’t think he had seen me perform live before.
I’m actually the featured artist next week (9/11) so I get to play for about 30 minutes. Hopefully you guys could come and check out all the great acts there.

See you at the talk 2nite.
    Later.
